error while trying to install

I've tried installing Secretary CMS a few times. The first time, I installed to amylew.com/portfolio (now deleted). I installed incorrectly (I installed all to the same directory instead of to different ones), and when I tried to login, I got the following error: [an error occurred while processing this directive]

I then tried installing to both /cms and /secretary, and this time, when I tried to access install.php, I got the same vague error. I've retried this multiple times, but have had no luck since.

Is there anything I can do besides wait, at best?

Notably, it worked when I installed it in a subdomain: http://portfolio.amylew.com/ -- what happened in my root domain vs my subdomain?

Okay, somehow magically resolved. I copied the files over from my portfolio subdomain then went to install.php in my root and it magically worked.
